from the 2nd to 4th September 2010
Colchester is Britain’s oldest recorded town and is easy to visit from
across the UK and beyond, with a colourful history dating back over two thousand
years. The area is renowned as being the inspiration for famous English artists
John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Alfred Munnings.
This year’s symposium is a celebration marking the 50th year of our
society and with that in mind we would like to see as many delegates and companions
joining us for a very exciting few days.
Both the delegate and companion programs will include a visit to
Colchester Castle where there will be a behind the scenes talk about Roman
glass, this is a great opportunity to view and handle glass not on display
to the general public. For those not wishing to participate in the talk the
castle itself is of great interest with the
Magnificent Roman bronze statue of Mercury, the Colchester vase and much more
or pop across the road to indulge in retail therapy.
The evening program for Thursday will include a casual/fancy dress (optional)
Roman theme, prize to be awarded, charity auction and more topped off with
a disco. Fridays program to include a cocktail reception, formal dinner, awards
and a live band to get you all up on your feet to dance the night away.
The symposium venue has facilities perfectly
suited to symposiums of the nature of the BSSG to motivate and encourage
the best from all delegates.
