Council News
Council met on Saturday 13th March at the Crown Hotel, Stone with seven members present.
The main points of business conducted were:
• All current and previous Minutes of BSSG meetings will be cared for by BSSG Hon secretary for historical value.
• BSSG rules review planned, in particular the level of corporate membership.
• The stock of BSSG trophies with their “Conditions of Entry” reviewed for relevance and condition.
• Options considered for increasing membership and promotion of BSSG.
• Increasing BSSG communicating with like-minded societies and organisations for mutual benefit.
• Introduction of new BSSG Librarian, Terri Adams and to confirm arrangements for transfer of library stock. Council expressed thanks to previous Librarian, Roy Batchen for all his efforts in maintaining a vibrant service to BSSG members. In particular the service had grown in line with the increased stock and this is to continue with relocating the Library from Leicester to Oxford.
• Agree to seek advice to improve financial efficiency of BSSG.
• Confirm set pieces for BSSG competitions and to agree judging arrangements.
• Discuss options for future Office Bearers of BoE acknowledging changes in staffing.
• Improvements identified to BSSG website were discussed highlighting the disadvantages and advantages. More work will be actioned on this subject.
• Results from the 2009 BSSG Symposium identified the event to be very successful in all respects.
• Plans for 2010 BSSG Symposium are on schedule to make the 50th anniversary BSSG Symposium a resounding success with memorable events and unique attractions with an increased educational focus.
• Discussed proposal for new category of membership being “Fellow”.
• The next meeting of Council took place on 19th June and will be reported in the BSSG Journal, dated October 2010.
